Documentary Project “Only The Forgotten is New”
2022-2023
The participation in the professionals program of FEST 2022 led to collaboration with German writer/director Mona Schier who was producing and directing a short documentary. For the short I helped with developing promotional plans and materials and festival strategy.
Together we visited various festivals like IDFA, IFFR and Berlinale / European Film Market to promote the short and find potential partners and input for developing the short into a longer version and possibly a series. As producer I developed Budget and Production plans.
With regards to IFDA, this was the first major event where Mona and I pitched our project, the feature length documentary “Only the Forgotten Is New”. The short version of the documentary (20 min) served as proof of concept, with regards to approaching investors/ co-producers on the full version and was submitted to Film Festivals.
At IDFA we have talked to many people including (experienced) Producers and consultants with regards to funding and distribution. We had one on one conversations and I participated in various small group consultancy sessions. Besides a ton of info and advice, we have found potential Co-production in France and Germany.
End 2022 the short version was finished. Next stops were IFFR in the Netherlands at the end of January 2023 and Berlinale in Germany shortly after.
We continued to promote the short documentary and development plans and showcase Mona’s great talent in storytelling with a high standard in visuals, sound and art.
It was a great and valuable learning experience at the Industry market during the Berlinale.
The short film was selected for FEST in June and participated in the 2023 Shortcutz Amsterdam competition and it won "Best Documentary" at the 11th Shortcutz Amsterdam Annual Awards Jan 2024!
It also was selected for the online market catalog of Visions du Réel in Switzerland. New filmmakers like Mona will hopefully one day show their films at major festivals. I am happy and proud to have played a supportive role in bringing the documentary and director Mona Schier to the wold.
